What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Written to be read, not to be survived.

In effect Last updated 11 August 2026 Version 1.0

The short version

We collect the minimum we need to run our products, we don't sell personal data to anyone, and we don't use it to build advertising profiles. Most of what we hold is the account you created and how you used the product — and you can ask us to show it to you or delete it at any time.

The full detail is below. If something here isn't clear, ask us at privacy@wei.co.mz and we'll explain it in plain language.

The numbered sections below are the text that governs, and they are kept in English so there is only ever one version to interpret. Write to us in Portuguese whenever you like — we answer in Portuguese.

01 / Who we areThe people responsible

Wei Technologies ("Wei", "we", "us") is a consumer software company based in Maputo, Mozambique. We are the controller of the personal data described in this policy — that means we decide what is collected and why.

This policy covers wei.co.mz and the products we operate, including wei exames at exames.wei.co.mz. Where one of our products needs to explain something specific to it, it does so inside the product, and that notice sits alongside this one rather than replacing it.

Questions, requests and complaints all go to privacy@wei.co.mz.

02 / What we collectThe data we hold

We group it into four kinds:

  • Information you give us. An account name, email address and password when you sign up for a product; the school year, class or subjects you tell us you're studying; and anything you write to us in an email or a form.
  • Information created by using a product. Which exercises you opened, the answers you submitted, your scores and progress over time. In wei exames this is the product — without it there is nothing to show you.
  • Technical information. Device type, operating system, browser, approximate location derived from your IP address, and the pages you visited. We use this to keep the service working and to understand which parts are actually used.
  • Information from others. If you sign in with a third-party account, that provider tells us your name and email address. We don't receive your password, and we don't get access to anything else in that account.

We do not collect payment card numbers. If we introduce paid products, payments will be handled by a licensed payment provider that processes the card or mobile money details directly, and this policy will be updated before that happens.

03 / How we use itWhat we do with it

  • To run the product — create your account, save your progress, show your results and keep you signed in.
  • To improve the product — see which questions are too hard, which screens people abandon, and where a feature isn't landing.
  • To support you — answer your messages and investigate problems you report.
  • To keep things safe — detect abuse, fraud and attempts to break into accounts.
  • To communicate — service messages about your account, and product updates if you asked to receive them.
  • To meet legal obligations — where Mozambican law requires us to keep or produce records.

We do not sell personal data, we do not rent it, and we do not share it with advertising networks to target you elsewhere.

04 / Why we're allowed toOur legal basis

We rely on one of the following, depending on what we're doing:

  • Performing our agreement with you — for everything needed to deliver a product you signed up for.
  • Your consent — for optional things like marketing emails or non-essential analytics. You can withdraw consent at any time, and withdrawing it does not affect what we did while it was in place.
  • Our legitimate interests — for security, abuse prevention and improving the product, weighed so that they never override your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where applicable law requires the processing.

05 / Cookies and local storageWhat we store on your device

This website stores one thing on your device: whether you're reading it in English or Portuguese, kept in your browser's local storage under the key wei-lang. It never leaves your device and it identifies nobody.

Our products use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in and, where you've allowed it, to measure usage. The full inventory — what each one is, who sets it, and how long it lasts — is on the cookie policy page, along with how to turn off the optional ones.

06 / Who else sees itSharing and processors

We keep the list of companies that touch our data short, and each one works under a contract that limits them to what we've asked for:

  • Hosting and infrastructure — to serve the site and store the database behind it.
  • Analytics — to count usage and understand behaviour in aggregate.
  • Email delivery — to send account and support messages.
  • Error monitoring — to be told when something breaks, and with what.

Beyond that, we share personal data only where the law requires it — a valid order from a competent authority — or to protect the rights and safety of our users, the public or Wei. If Wei is ever involved in a merger or acquisition, personal data may move to the new owner, and we will tell you before it does.

07 / Where it's storedInternational transfers

Wei operates from Mozambique, but the infrastructure we rely on is not always physically here. Your data may be stored or processed on servers in other countries. When that happens, we require the provider to apply protections at least equivalent to those described in this policy, through contractual commitments and their own security controls.

08 / How long we keep itRetention

We keep personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we're required to keep something longer for legal, accounting or security reasons — and in that case we keep only that specific record, for only that long.

Aggregated statistics that can no longer be linked to any individual (for example "68% of students got question 4 wrong") are kept indefinitely. They're no longer personal data.

09 / How we protect itSecurity

Traffic to and from our services is encrypted in transit. Passwords are stored as salted hashes, never as text we could read. Access to production data is limited to team members who need it, and it is logged. We keep backups, and we test that they restore.

No system is perfectly secure, and we won't claim otherwise. If a breach affects your personal data and creates a real risk to you, we will notify you and the relevant authority without undue delay, and tell you what we know and what we're doing about it.

10 / Your rightsWhat you can ask of us

Subject to applicable law, you can ask us to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it.
  • Correct anything that's wrong or out of date.
  • Delete your data, where we don't have an overriding legal reason to keep it.
  • Restrict or object to a particular use, including processing based on our legitimate interests.
  • Port your data to another service in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent you previously gave, at any time.

Write to privacy@wei.co.mz and we'll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm your identity first, so that nobody else can make a request in your name. Making a request is free, and we will never restrict your account for making one.

11 / Students and minorsYounger users

wei exames is built for students preparing for 10ª and 12ª classe and for university entrance, so we know some of our users are under 18. We keep this in mind by design: we ask for the minimum information needed to run an account, we don't profile students for advertising, and we don't make their activity public or visible to other users.

If you are a parent, guardian or teacher and you believe a young person has given us data you'd rather they hadn't, write to privacy@wei.co.mz and we will remove it.

12 / Changes to this policyWhen this document changes

We update this policy when what we do changes. The version number and the "last updated" date at the top of this page always reflect the current text. If a change materially affects your rights, we'll tell you directly — by email or a notice in the product — before it takes effect, rather than quietly editing the page.
